Where'd the words go?
Lately, whenever I've tried to pick up a pen or experimentally prod the keys of my typewriter in an attempt to coax some words out, I've failed. Usually rather miserably, to boot. For some reason, the words just don't come as easily anymore. As someone who strives to be a lyricist, a poet, an author and a generally thoughtful individual, I can tell you that this is not a good feeling to have. In fact, it's positively detrimental to all of those endeavours. Yet a glance through my blog reveals that, as time went on, my capacity for manipulating the language increased. Some bold things happened on these electronic pages - at least, bold in terms of the directions they pushed me in. Though I wouldn't call my writing excellent, I would say it was perfectly acceptable around the time that I stopped posting regularly.
Within that time I've been to California, made new friends in real life and new friends on the Internet, entered university in the faculty I desired, played my first show as These Estates and completely failed to get a steady job. However, with all of that, I still wish that I had the linguistic aptitude that used to feel so present in my writing, my poetry and my music. My life.
So I guess what I'm saying is, I'm back. I'm back to try and restart this blog, based mainly on the idea that practice makes perfect.
Oh, and I'd like to make a couple of retractions of some ancient posts. Number one, the bit I wrote about art a few years back is stupid. Read it if you feel like laughing but all I proved is that I didn't know a thing about art. The second one I'd like to retract is the one from around the same time where I suggested that homoxeual couples should not kiss publicly. That was an all-around ridiculous thing to say. I'd like to make an excuse for my age or something but really prejudice has no place at any grade level. Although if it makes any difference I had figured you guys would have got the whole right to marriage thing settled in your favour by now. Seriously, I still don't understand why that is such a difficult thing to make happen.
Anyways. I promised to write about my favourite albums from last year, and that'll come in time, even if it's March already. This year is looking to be really great music-wise so I might as well set a nice high standard for myself!
See you soon, I hope.
