Jammed with a drummer, Jeremy, tonight. It went fantastically well. Afterwards we talked about how open I am to input about songs.
It's a tricky thing, you know? The problem with it is, a song is a very personal creation. I haven't encountered that line yet, but I know where there's a line that my first reaction will be "you're messing with my stuff" when it gets crossed.
And there's a huge conflict. I don't want to come across as egotistical. However, I've written a lot of music that I think deserves a decent treatment. As a musician, I want these songs to realize their potential; as their songwriter, I want to see them put into the world as unspoiled as possible - not that input would spoil them, by any means. I want to have a cohesive unit that sounds like the band it is, but at the same time I want to bring these songs into the world as I picture them.
It's tough to talk about, you know? I spend a lot of time organizing my songs meticulously but leaving more than ample room for organic growth and restructuring. I just don't want their fundementals messed with.
So I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm open to input. Revolution I might be a little wary of.
